Buy-and Try’s

October Buy-and -Try/First Impressions

Some of my winter skincare products have already arrived! That means, of course, I couldn’t help myself and have already started trying some of them out. Here are my first impressions on some of these new-to-me products:

CosRX Propolis Light Ampoule

First of all, the color. Its drop-dead gorgeous and I want to paint my entire apartment in the exact shade so I can admire and stare at it all day long.

As for the actual product, the results are drop-dead amazing so far. It’s a bit sticky when first applied, but another layer of moisture on top takes care of that problem. It leaves my skin unbelievably smooth and supple; a few minutes after application, and it looks like I’ve spent the past hour sheet masking! Only a few uses so far, and I’m completely hooked. I can already tell its going to be a major skin saver this season 🙂

Etude House Bubble Tea Sleeping Pack:

I FINALLY have this bad boy in my well-moisturized clutches. I just had to have it in my collection because of the packaging. It just makes me so happy to wake up to it every morning. As I was buying solely for the packaging, I went all out and got the strawberry “flavor.” Sadly, the strawberry scent is minimal to nonexistent, and, turns out the pink kind is actually for dry skin (lucky!), but I have yet to be impressed with the results. The lid has a small notch which fits into a hole in the spoon you use to get the product out so the spoon snaps onto the product. Brilliant idea-why can’t all my moisturizers have this feature?

TonyMoly Tomatox Massage Pack:

While I did actually buy this product based on several well-loved samples, the packaging is sheer genius. It’s a tomato! The leaves/stem on the tomato are actually rubber (not painted on!), and the tomato is actually gradient colored with yellow and orange mixed in with the red-we’re talking a real-life looking tomato, not some cartoon version of one! The massage pack dries to a stark white color (think geisha like), and  makes skin look firmer and leaves it smooth and healthy looking.

Vichy Dermablend Foundation:

I’ve wanted to get my hands on this ever since I cut my teeth on the makeup world via Lisa Eldridge’s Youtube videos. It works, just like she says: amazingly little product for an amazing amount of coverage. I bought it online in the lightest shade, but, of course, it is still slightly too beige for my stark whiteness. This being said, there were only 5-6 shades to choose from, so the colors are not as finely tuned like some other brands with 20+ different shades. My only complaints are that it is a little drying (but this is taking into account my already dry skin…this would probably be a great thing for any other skin type), and that it must have a layer of powder already dusted over it before adding any sort of other powder-based product. It doesn’t need powder to set or stay (I just do it anyway out of habit), but applying anything not liquid/cream based directly on top of the foundation means that it will streak and not blend evenly. Just a heads up.

Have you ever tried these products before? What did you think?

September Buy-and-Trys

The month has just begun, and all that fresh, new energy that comes with the start of a new month has me feeling inspired and ready to deep clean…my pores, that is. This month is all about “out with the old, and in with the new,” featuring some new products to refresh and renew the skin, focusing on clearing out and minimizing pores.

Holika Holika Pig Nose Clear Blackhead 3 step Nose Clearing Kit: I’ve been doing my own version of these three step kits for awhile now: prepping my skin with a mild BHA to “loosen” things up, applying a peel-off pore strip or mask, and then soothing my skin with something snail-related. I can’t wait to compare results with an official version of this. From what I’ve heard, people only say good things about the effectiveness of these kits.

Ettang Peeling  Soothing Mask: This two step sheet mask first peels, then soothes. A mild chemical peel followed by a specially formulated sheet mask? In the comfort of my own home? While watching Netflix? Yes, please.

Elizavecca Carbonated Bubble Clay Mask: I have been dying to try one of these bubbling masks after seeing all of the videos on Youtube. They look like so much fun, and also seem a lot more comfortable and more efficient at delivering all of the benefits of clay than traditional, quick-drying clay masks. I may die laughing though…note to self: don’t look at the mirror while doing this 🙂

Ramosu Galactomyces Ferment Filtrate 100 (3 bottle set): I’m a sucker for a good k-beauty sale, and well, when this product I’ve been eyeing for awhile came down to a steal price, I bit the bullet and finally bought it. It comes in a set of three bottles along with dropper. Galactomyces ferment is a type of yeast (yes, like brewers use). It supposedly is good for evening tone, smoothing skin texture, and promoting/maintaining youthful, glowing skin. I am 100% okay with any of those things happening on my face.

And, no, it doesn’t seem to smell like yeast. At all.

Lastly, I didn’t buy this, but I would like to try something new on the blog. I was thinking that all through the month, people could send me links to a few of their favorite posts (their own personal posts and/or others’ posts they absolutely loved) and then I would round up maybe a top 5 or 10 in the Septmember Favorites post at the end of the month (depending on how many were sent) so those posts could reach out to more people and get closer to the exposure they deserve. I’d also tweet them, etc.

Would anyone be down for doing this or doing this with me? If you are, let me know in the comments below and/or get to dropping the links! It’ll be open all month long. I honestly love each and everyone of my followers and just really want to pay each and everyone’s awesomeness foward! If it’s too cheesy though, just comment a cheese emoji or something and let me down easy, okay?

I am honestly so excited to try all of these new products and whip my pores in to a squeaky-clean state! And, uh, not to mention this potential new blog feature each month!! Do you have anything special you’re trying this month, products, blogging, or otherwise? Share in the comments below 🙂

Here’s to having the best month so far of the year! And I’m looking forward to reading those links! 💕

Beauty Buy-and-Try: August

Now that we are a few days into August, I figured it would be a good time to share some products that I’m super stoked to try out this month. I’m trying some new (to me) makeup and skincare this month, and am hoping my risks will pay off in some new favorites.
From a recent trip to Sephora, I picked up an eye cream by First Aid Beauty (aka FAB) whose title seemed to promise the sort of moisture my eye area regularly craves, but my usual non-eye-cream wearing self never gives. Its called the Eye Duty Triple Remedy Overnight Balm; I like that I won’t have to worry about putting makeup over it (I’ve actually had a few bad experiences with this), and can just wake up to nicer eyes 🙂

I also picked up a new, lighter foundation for those days when I don’t want to commit to a full face of makeup. What’s neat about the Bare Minerals’ Bare Skin Pure Brightening Serum Foundation is that the foundation is literally a serum. It is very emollient in texture and super sheer. I may have cheated a little and already used it once as a primer in my Veronica Lake makeup tutorial (skin was super dry that day and I was out of a decent primer to properly deal with it…creativity comes when you’re in a pinch, am I right?), but I have yet to actually wear it as a true foundation, let alone out and about on a day-to-day basis. It is ridiculously hydrating (emollient). It may be too sheer for my all my PIH, but we will see. If anything, it seems to be a good primer for winter skin 😉

The Cloud 9 Blanc de Whitening Cream by Claire’s has been a product I’ve been dying to try. I can’t really tell you why as I’m as pale as a sheet of computer paper, but I’ve heard really great things about it evening and brightening skin tone over time with consistent use (while providing instant results)…that pale glow y’all. In actuality, I more just want it to help lighten up my various foundations and such. I’ve reached a shade that very few foundations will actually match. Perhaps this will help lighten them up?

Color correcting is something I’m still on the fence about. I do color correct around my dark circles as nothing really works around that area except salmon colored things, but green on pimples is still kind of iffy for me. I didn’t really want to commit to a full color correcting palette or a legitimate green concealer, so I compromised with this green One Step Face Base by Babyface. The packaging may have had a lot to do with it 🙂

Digging into my waning sample stash, I found a packet of Blithe’s Patting Water Pack in Energy Yellow Citrus and Honey that I got from an order placed several months ago. You have to mix it with water and splash/pat it all over your face. Having to find a big enough bowl and place to make a splashy mess don’t make it the most accessible sample to use in the world. Needless to say, I have been really wanting to see if it works. Let me know if you’d like a video or review on it. I, at least, think its pretty cool and have gotten myself super excited to try it!
